The support needed would be identified at the care assessment stage and discussed with the service user (client and supporting family members). Family members would provide weekly pill organisers or dispensers.
The service user would take responsibility for their own medication, indicating what actions they are to take on each occasion. Support given includes some or all of the following:
- prompting
- requesting repeat prescriptions from the GP
- Collecting medication from the pharmacy
- disposing of unwanted medication by returning to the pharmacy when requested to do so by the service provider
- manipulation of a container eg opening a bottle or lid
